Solu Estate Winery & Meadery

Because, creating a working winery & meadery does not happen overnight, this story began well over a decade ago with an ambitious couple who had unique dreams and aspirations for an amazing tract of property that they called The Highlands.

Since much of The Highlands was underutilized for their core business, TJ and Annie began planting grape vines in 2003 with full intentions of one day building a winery. Every year more vines were placed in the ground, pruned, trellised and cared for. Richie, their vineyard manager, spent every waking moment beginning late spring through the fall watching over his vines making sure they were growing properly and remained healthy.

In 2014 there were now 11 varietals encompassing 23 acres that were producing a significant crop of grapes. Two additional partners, Todd and Matt joined the team and they formed a company called White Bear Spirits. The name “SoLu” was chosen for their winery after TJ and Annie’s two children Sophie and Luke. Construction of the winery began in 2014 and the first wines, meads and ciders were crafted by our winemaker, Frederick Niffenegger within this building beginning in 2015.

On April 9th, 2016 SoLu Estate Winery and Meadery opened its doors to the public and the next chapter in this continuing story has just begun. We invite you to explore our website. You will meet the founder, our winemaker and learn more about our unique culture that will explain our present and future path. Finally, we hope that you make a trip to SoLu Estate where you can taste our wines, meads and ciders that were all hand-crafted….First from a dream and now from our heart. Let us welcome you, its Time.
