Farmsteads and Rolling Hills

Just minutes from the bustle of Milwaukee, wine enthusiasts will find respite in the wineries of the Glacial Hills region of Wisconsin. The defining geographic feature is the rolling landscape. Pristine remnants of forests, meadows and glacial formations are preserved by the Kettle Moraine State Forest, which offers trail systems for hiking, biking, birdwatching or picnicking with your favorite bottle of wine.

The Wineries — Historic Flavors

Glacial Hills wineries combine historic surroundings, natural beauty and Old World traditions. ÆppelTreow Winery revisits America’s forgotten cider heritage and the farmstead ciders of rural Europe. The Apple Barn Orchard & Winery overlooks the Turtle Valley Wildlife area. Staller Estate Winery creates award-winning wines in rural Walworth County near Delavan. Located in the heart of Milton, Northleaf Winery is housed in a restored warehouse dating to 1850. The Vetrano family’s Vetro Winery carries on a century-old family tradition of winemaking. Cedar Creek Winery is located in a limestone building from the 1860s. And the unique Vines to Cellar offers great tasting wines as well as everything you need to create your own wines at home.

Quiet Trailways and Charming Towns

Wherever you are in the Glacial Hills region, you’re not far from wonderful trails and quiet country roads. Concord and Pewaukee are located in southeast Wisconsin’s lake region, home of the region’s top fishing and boating lakes. Burlington sits on the banks of the winding Fox River, flowing south through farmland and meadows. Elkhorn, surrounded by rolling green hills and dairy farms, is just minutes from Lake Geneva. Cedarburg, which boasts a thriving arts community and numerous galleries, is a favorite weekend escape for antique collectors and art enthusiasts from Milwaukee and Chicago. Port Washington overlooks Lake Michigan and features lighthouses and classic small-town charm.
